The classic recipe (makes 1 large batch)
Ingredients
- 12 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup peanuts (optional)
Method
- Preheat oven to 250°F
- Pop popcorn; place in large bowl
- In saucepan, combine brown sugar + butter + corn syrup + salt
- Bring to boil; cook 4 minutes (don't stir)
- Remove from heat; stir in baking soda + vanilla
- Pour over popcorn; toss to coat
- Spread on parchment-lined baking sheet
- Bake 1 hour; stir every 15 minutes
- Cool completely (becomes crunchy)
- Break into pieces
