I know a lot of families that own big houses (300K+ homes) and yet only spend so little time in them. It’s been proven that we’re a mobile country and yet people still spend ridiculous amounts of money on houses that they litteraly only spleep over in. Why is that so?

because when people have lots of money, they spend it just for the sake of spending it.

or maybe its “compensating” for something if you know what I mean.

Because you have to be a complete idiot to spend over $ 300K on a house in this economy (unless you’re a millionaire of course).

It’s a matter of investment for most. Unlike gold or other liquid investments, real estate will fluctuate. People buy in low with the hope that they might sell high and make a profit. For others, they are looking to establish a home, or legacy for their children. They are looking to build a foundation for their family. And still there are other who are only in it for the looks, and the in my case, the ability to say, “I have a little place in Tahoe.”

Our house is moderate, but considering there’s an average of about six feet of snow outside per winter, we’re inside a good deal.

It’s their dream. I guess it’s one of their life time goals?

The reason why I want to have a huge mansion is because I’ve been longing to live in one and OWN one. It’s always nice to live in your own dream house.
