cap·i·tal·ism – Show Spelled Pronunciation[kap-i-tl-iz-uhm]
–noun; an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, esp. as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.
[Origin: 1850–55; capital1 + -ism]
Capitalism- An economic system based on a free market, open competition, profit motive and private ownership of the means of production. Capitalism encourages private investment and business, compared to a government-controlled economy. Investors in these private companies (i.e. shareholders) also own the firms and are known as capitalists.

In other words you can be anything you want, own your own business and go to the mall and buy a pink shirt and a pair of earrings or a skateboard anytime you want. This is the choice of Republicans and Conservatives.
so·cial·ism (sō’shə-lĭz’əm) Pronunciation Key
Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship has not yet been successfully achieved.

In otherwords the stage when you start to hide your pink shirt; pretty necklace and skateboard cause they will soon come and get them. This is the choice of some of the Democrats and definitely the first step for the Liberals in charge right now…Barak…Hillary…Pelosi…Reid.
com·mu·nism (kŏm’yə-nĭz’əm) Pronunciation Key
A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.
The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism.
communism: noun
1. a form of socialism that abolishes private ownership
2. a political theory favoring collectivism in a classless society

In otherwords the government has you build homes that are all exactly the same…they are all painted grey. They take away your cars and give you little grey cars and grey bikes. They send their security detail like the Nazis did to come to your family’s home and they start rummaging through it looking for your pink shirt; pretty necklace and skateboard. If they don’t find it then one by one they take your family members away never to return home again.
The liberals who are now the leaders will meet for lavish dinners with Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Kim Jung IL, the Arab Leaders and others, sitting around laughing and drinking and cheering to each other at how they turned America into a Communist State.

You aren’t getting the metaphors in that capitalism gives us a choice…a pink shirt; the right to buy things…earrings or a skateboard with the labor you exerted for the money you not only need but want to use to buy things with. As for grey…it represents bland or no choice. In a country where a person has a pink car…grey is a color choice.

As for the hosting of Arabs among others at their lavish dinner party doesn’t imply Arabs are commies.
Is jt always like this?
jesswzmn: While I appreciate your points the problem is the snowball effect…We could ultimately become commies.
I don’t want the socialist experiment tried in America…BECAUSE
Andrew…Andrew…calm down. You sound like an anarchist. Now think about it…the socialist is not yet within a socialist country. They must adapt in the capitalistic society until it becomes Socialist. Calm down little fella…mmmkay? I’m sorry that your precious little party has been pooped on. That is no reason to use foul language.

Socialism would be nice if it was actually executed well…so far no one’s done it successfully without becoming authoritarion.

The best system of government is capitalistic with socialistic tendencies (an example would be the New Deal government during the 30s).

Not going to read your definitions. Waste of time, and if you think you have to explain to us what each of them are, your definitions are likely contrived.

Capitalism is the natural state of human beings. We always try to serve our basic needs by either growing what we need or trading for it.

Communism and socialism are enforced forms of economics and will always lead to a over-controlling government.

First of All, “Capitalism” isn’t on the spectrum of political ideologies, so you are starting out wrong.

There is Right and Left, there are Libertarian, Fascism, Communism, NeoLiberalism, Socialism, Statist (Statism), Anarchism and then Centrist–and everything else in between.

Some are right leaning statist neoliberal (Bush).

I prefer Capitalism and I’m a liberal democrat who supports Obama. I think you need to really read those definitions yourself, because there is nothing that Obama, Pelosi, or Reid have ever said which matches your definition of socialism.

You should also read the community guidelines. Your “question” is nothing but spam.

Capitalism is the only way. The only people that socialism does not scare are welfare cases who refuse to work for themselves and want the government to do everything for them and the only people communism does not scare are total freaks.

    Original Poster: Good grief…

You said “read the definitions and submit your answer”. I read your definitions… not your metaphors. If you want me to read your metaphors, then make that the title of the post.

Until then, STOP posing your question as a neutral question. Because you include dictionary definitions does NOT mean that it’s “fair and balanced”.

Besides that this is a loaded question and a troll’s rant, I just have one question:

Why would you think that the houses in a communist country would be painted grey?

I mean, even if you don’t like communism, why grey? Could a communist (even one portrayed in the “comedy of horrors” style that you present) like colors? Why not blue, or green, or… RED (the color traditionally associated with communism)?

Also, what’s wrong with a grey car… silver is one of the most popular colors for American cars today.

I mean, the question is stupid, but where did you come up with the idea that bicycles would be grey?

But seriously, your “commentaries” have nothing to do with the defintions you provide. Where in your definitions does it say you can’t have a pink shirt, or a skateboard. Also, the Arab leaders aren’t part of a communist state. Some are democratic, others are totalitarian… but none are communist.

A better question: why do you start troll-ish rants?

you forgot to include fascism in your choices.

You need to think of this as a spectrum.

There is no question in my mind (i dont need to read your definitions) that capitalism is the preferred method. However, ideally and what has proven to work best in a fair minded and progressive society is capitalism which includes some socialistic aspects. The USA has never been about pure capitalism. We have had some socialist notions in our system..which is why it has worked so well.

The problem now is actually that we have been shifting the other direction and trying to shift away from what I call fair minded capitalism with the common good in mind to extreme out of control rampant capitalism the law of the jungle a dog eat dog type of society. This is not good, and this is why we see the economic meltdown going on in the USA…too much selfishness and greed and too little thought of the common good or even whats best in the long term. Everything is about making quick profits and let whatever happens in the future happen with a devil may care approach.

In summary, capitalism is the best system…but just because I like capitalism does not mean I should approve of my govt and politicians being owned by the rich or big corporations…it does not mean I have to accept changing from will of the people, majority rule to rule of the many by the few. IN life, extremes are rarely good you. Extreme captitalism as we are seeing curently is not good either.

I believe that socialism works the best of the three because it keeps greedy fat men from getting all the money. However as some have previously stated no one has executed it properly. It would be the best of the three if people could actually do it right.

Political and economic philosophies are great for the classroom, but we live in a nation, not a classroom.

Communism and GOSPLAN didn’t work. The USSR could orbit a space station in one year, but couldn’t put a telephone in an apartment in less than 10 years. You could get free healthcare, but getting a decent pair of shoes was another matter. Eventually, popular pressure forced these nations to join the mixed global market.

Pure Capitalism didn’t work either. When your oil prices go through the roof, you’ve got to ration and when your mortgage companies default, you’ve got to nationalize them. You can’t let everyone open an electric company (or nuclear power plant) on every block, or let your airlines fly willy nilly anywhere they want. You can’t let your corporations run amuck and destroy small business or let your currency inflate 1000%. You can’t allow foreign competition to destroy your industry, but you can’t impose huge tarriffs if you expect other nations to buy your goods.

So we do not practice (or want to practice) any of these systems. Most of the World now practices a mixed free-market economic system in which private and corporate (collective) property is prevalent, but with elements of government control over banking and finance and ownership of essential utilities and services (including old-age pensions and health and disability insurance) which private owners are unwilling or unable to produce. It is an evolution and synthesis of all of the above and will continue to evolve in whatever direction it needs to. Who am I to propose something different?

you dont have a fucking clue do you?
lets see. you say hillary is a socialist. Last i checked, hillary was a major sponser of the nafta free trade agreement. How on earth can you be a socialist and support free trade?
do you remember naftas little brother.. cafta? well while president bush, a so called republican conservative, was threatening to cut off trade with central american countries, pelosi and reid (who you call socialist) were strengthening trade agreements with these countries.
how the fuck can you support free trade, while at the same time want to be socialist.
You have no fucking clue what is happening.

    do you support monopolies?

This would go against your capitalist beliefs if you do not support it, however, it would destroy your definition of capitalism. there would never be another company that would be strong enough to compete with them.

so, these people that you are calling socialist, are in fact, controlled capitalist.
