My fiance and I just bought a new house and we’re doing the tax forms right now. My question is this: the settlement date (as per the HUD-1) is listed as April 30th, however funding was delayed till the following Monday (May 3rd), so when I fill out the paperwork do I go the route of the purchase date was on April 30th or May 3rd (and then answering the questions about the contract and so forth).

I know it’s not a big issue, but we need this money to be timely so we don’t want any little BS clerical stuff to delay the refund. Thank you for your help.

Use your contract date or purchase date – your purchase date is May 3rd which should be the date on the official HUD-1 (since that was the date you actually closed) but still within the June 30 deadline. Your contract date can also be used since you had the contract signed and sealed before the April 30 deadline.

The date you and the seller signed the contract must be April 30, or before. You must have closed on the sale by June 30. So, if you all signed before or on April 30, you are good. Put that date.
