I have asked a similar question already and the answer helped considerably but i am in a complex situation that i will go on to explain.

First off i am a vocalist and i have a microphone
i am looking also to buy a keyboard and some sort of system to put both the mic and keyboard through
i have very little money to do this and also idealy would like to be able to record either on my computer, digitaly or analogue.
I don’t know anything about recording other than what i have already been told.
I have looked at pro tools and computer interfances but the prices are steap and i do not fully understand what i should be getting given i am a learner at keyboard and recording.

In summary i want a system that will play both a keyboard and mic with mixing capability if possible
(i have speakers) and also the capability to record if someone could give me an idiots guide of how to achieve this super super cheaply then please i would be very happy

thanks.

1 Thought on What do i need to play and record music at home?

Here is a wonderful article on setting up a home studio :

Also, you should seriously consider joining a community like http://www.audioneeds.com – it’s a great forum filled with sound engineers that are always asking and answering questions and discussing techniques in mixing and recording. I think it’ll help you a lot since you are interested in recording so much. 🙂

    Good luck my friend!
