Okay, we just moved into our first house! We bought a chocolate brown sofa and love seat, the carpet is a very light tan, almost white. The walls right now are a very ugly tan color. Its either not dark enough or not light enough. I have a lot of the “americana” decorations, like red, white and blue things. So i’m wondering what color I could paint the living room to match w/ the brown coches? Should I just not put the decorations in the living room, and hang then else where? Any ideas?

Hmm… I think you should try neutral colors. Browns a pretty easy color to mess with.

As for the decor, use it in your kitchen or something. red, white, blue, and brown….eh. Not so nice lol.

We just painted our living room / dining room / stairway (it’s all connected). We have 2 red accent walls – one in the dining room and one in the living room behind the tv. The rest of the walls are painted a light tanish color called “fortune cookie” (it really is the color of a fortune cookie). Previously all the rooms were a pale tan color – it was ugly. We used white for the ceiling, bannister and doors – it looks fabulous. I was nervous at first because it wasn’t a “safe” way to go, but it looks great. We have a dark wood tv stand and end tables, and the black tv and speakers really set off the red wal behind them.

We played around a lot with the Behr paint site before going with our color scheme. It was inspired from one of their brochures.

I suggest trying something a little risky. It makes a room look so much more sophisticated and elegant and less cookie-cutter or manufactured. It gives your home character. You’ll love it!
