We have a house next to us that is in disrepair and falling in on itself. It use to be a wonderful looking home in it’s era. It’s been abandoned for a few years now. The older adult children were going to try and sell it. There is junk everywhere on the outside, older vehicles, sheds full of garbage with the doors open and obnoxious weeds that the city ordinance said shouldn’t be growing there. My boyfriend decided to go before the city council and site the violations. Well the meeting made the front news of the towns newspaper. All of a sudden the lot got sold or so we think to our neighbors son and his wife. They are a lot younger than us. My boyfriend, not knowing about the sale, was on the property looking at it when the son, his wife and his parents came by. The son approached my boyfriend and said I prefer that you not be here and that it will take time to clear the house out (demolish), (they will be putting a new house on the lot) etc and my boyfriend, not thinking said something to the affect about if the weeds will be taken care of and then their son got nasty and said I won’t take your sh*t. Later on, while my boyfriend was in his own yard their son’s wife walked by and my boyfriend apologized and she just grumbled at him and kept walking. She didn’t accept his apology. Now, my boyfriend feels so bad about the whole situation. I know having that story written up in the paper did not help matters and I am sure the present owners of the property were upset, but the house was in the worst of shape and was devaluing my boyfriends house. The town doesn’t have a law to condemn property. I am more worried about what this guy said to my boyfriend. His parents live across the street from us. Today someone in a pickup on his parents property drove by and saw me in my boyfriends kitchen through the window and they drove by real slow to get a good look at me. It was unnerving.
