I live in North Florida, near Jacksonville. I don’t have any expensive items at my home other than my laptop(worth about 900) and live alone. Rest are just clothes, books, utensils.

Unless you have something of value renters insurance is really not worth the money spent; people with things like paintings, furs, jewelry, etc are right to get insurance

The insurance will be fairly cheap. I think it’s worth it. (I never had to make a claim when I was a renter, but you never know.)

When you call various companies, be very clear that you have a laptop.

Call, say, 5 companies. Eg, State Farm, All State, Geico, Amica, Farmers, Aetna….

Renters covers your loss of items, but also personal liability in case anyone visiting your apartment would fall or hurt themselves and try to sue you. If you are in a pretty decent cash situation, the $ 90 or so per year isn’t a bad idea. But if you are tight for cash I would forgo it.
