I want to travel to Rio De Janeiro for the Olympics in 5 years. It’s 6,300 miles away. I am debt free and wanted to get a new Credit Card. I thought it would partly help to earn rewards miles to go toward the trip. I also want to make two big purchases I already have the cash for. I can charge them on the card to earn the miles, then pay it off.

1 Thought on Should I get an airline miles credit card?

I use my American Airlines card to earn free trips. It works well for me, but you have to use the card enough to get enough miles to cover your trips. Example, North America to Brazil one way business class is 50k miles. For the most part the card provides 1 mile per $ spent. (sometimes there are promotions to get more points.)

I charge all of my monthly bills to the card and then pay it off each month, so I do earn quite a few miles. If you can do the same, it’s worthwhile. If you can’t do the same, then the card won’t help you get a free trip.
