I will be driving a vehicle that I am going to purchase in Florida through back to my home in Mississippi. My insurance company is going to fax me proof of insurance for verification if I am stopped. I have not found out if the Florida plates are to be removed or if they go along with the vehicle. If the plates are removed and I have not made it to Mississippi in order to get Mississippi plates, what do I need to have in my possession in order to be in compliance with Florida law?

I AM NOT PURCHASING FROM A DEALER. MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS GOING TO FAX ME INSURANCE INFORMATION. SO I WILL NOT BE DRIVING WITHOUT INSURANCE.

If you go to the DMV or Department of Licensing, there is a Private Vehicle Sale packet in which you and the other person selling the car need to fill out. Once you do that, take it back to the DMV or mail it in and you will be set. Attached to the packet there is a Temporary tag (unless the vehicle has license plates) in which case will transfer to your name in about 2 weeks. As long as you have the sale slip, and your new insurance. You’re covered.
