I just ran a credit report and was shocked at some of the errors on my open accounts. Some actually about 5 reported late payments at various times… I don’t recall this being done so I wrote letters asking to remove them due to some sort of error. Also.. I had a BK 10 years ago.. One of my accounts still shows on my credit.. and it states it was added to my BK only 3 years ago! ( I dont think that is correct at all!) I wrote them a letter to ask if we could do something to remedy this as my Fico score last month was only 601!

3 Thoughts on Repairing my own credit. Can this be done?

Basically, yes, just keep working through it.

Credit repair places are scams. They can’t do a darn thing you can’t do !

    Keep writing the wrong reporters…

Did you only pull one report or all 3? First remove all old adddresses and incorrect personal information such as name variations, SS# variations…. Then start working on removing any accounts that are negatively affecting your credit such as the BK account. You shouldn’t write letters asking them to do something to remedy it you write demanding they correct the misinformation. If they ignore it then insist they verify all incorrect info and send you the proof/method they verified the information. They may tell you you have to contact the creditor that is reporting the lates and ask them to validate them. Credit reporting agencies do not care what our FICO score is. Keep all communication short and to the point.

I’d highly recommend you visit and read, read, and read some more.
