I’m sure you’ve seen them on the weekends on a street corner, a sign readoing “OPEN HOUSE” with an arrow pointing to the house. Wouldn’t this sign be an open invitation to burglars who want to rob houses and can’t get in without a key?

2 Thoughts on Realtors selling houses have an open house to people to check out. A sign says so. Is it a message to burglars

No, the realtor is there the entire time during the open house. Burglars usually do not rob houses when people are there.

Open houses are intended to bring potential buyers to see a home and be told about it so a licensee is usually there. Because of the fact that many licensee’s have been attacked, murdered and otherwise robbed usually there is a system in place by agencies that check with the licensee to make sure they are ok and in some cases more than one licensee is there. Usually a police curtesy drive by’s are done. When the open house is finished then the owners return.
