I’ve been an AMEX cardholder for the past 35 consecutive years and ocassionally I’ve called and asked for a little love as far as the annual fee went, and the response has always been ‘sorry, we can’t do anything about the fee’. My annual fee showed up on my last statement of my AMEX Gold Rewards Plus card ($ 150) and on a lark I called last week and asked, as a cardmember since 1980, if they could do something about the fee. The response was “We see your long history and perfect payment on all 3 of your AMEX accounts so sure, we’ll credit your account for $ 150. Thanks for calling.” Either I got lucky with the rep (likely) or maybe AMEX has changed their attitude (doubtful), in any case I would suggest you just keep trying. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn eventually.
