I’ve seen a several posts about FP and people sending them emails listing precise discrepancies in their credit reporting and sending copies of credit reports to back it up. I took a different route. I had FP reporting an old C/O account and sent the following:
I hope your day is going well, and I don’t wish to take up too much of your time. I’ll get right to the point.
Upon reviewing my credit reports, I discovered an open account with your company that has been charged off some time ago. It is reporting very erratically and quite differently across all of my reports. While I don’t recall having this account, I do not dispute that it is mine, as it very well could be. It is several years old and I find that as I get older, my recollection isn’t what it used to be. The year of 2008 was very bad for a lot of people.
Apparently, this account has been damaging my credit for a very long time. If I could trouble you for some information, and a favor, I would greatly appreciate it.
If you could possibly tell me what the original charged debt was, before any late fees, and additional interest, etc… I would consider paying that amount in return for a complete deletion from my credit reports.
If I understand correctly, this will be dropped from my reports in a matter of months anyway, so I am trying to do the right thing. Again, I’m neither admitting nor denying this debt, but rather trying to get it removed from my credit reports in a manner that is most advantageous to both of us.
I hope that you will consider this request with understanding and compassion. The account details, as I have them, are listed below. I apologize for not providing an entire account number, but this is all I have:
Account number: 000000000000XXXX (I’m sorry, I don’t have the last four numbers).
Again, thank you for giving me a minute of your valuable time, and also for your consideration to this matter.
Please enjoy whatever is left in your day,
Three days later I received a response stating that they are deleting the account from all CRA’s. Granted, it was due to drop off in Sept. anyway, but I was offering to pay them whatever the original charges were. So I got a PFD without the P. It seems that even a simple, polite request will sometimes work.
