I just discovered that the state of Maryland filed a lien against me in November 2015. I have not lived in MD since March 2011, the lien is apparently from 2010. I never received a notice that a lien was being filed. My previous address is my mother’s house (in MD), so I certainly would have received a notice sent to that address. Do I have any recourse here? My current DC refund has been used to offset part of the lien. I get that I will have to pay the money owed, but is there any recourse in terms of it reporting or having it removed? My Experian score had gone up 26 points in less than a month, now it’s down 24 – the least of my problems considering there’s a brand new public record on my otherwise improving report.

Any insight and/or advice is appreciated.
