So, I applied for and received my Discover it Miles card end of June. In order to get any C/L on it, I had to agree to reduce the limit on my existing Discover it card to $ 1k, leaving me with a $ 8k C/L on the Miles.
I put moderate use on the Miles, until the beginning of September, when I pegged it at near 100% utilization, and it’s stayed near 100% (or sometimes a little more ) since then. I’ve had to make about eight payments in the last month just to stay below the ceiling. So the $ 8k limit was kinda cramping my style.
I had heard that 90 days is (or used to be) the magic number for Discover for a CLI, so I thought I’d call. CSR was happy to tell me that she could put through a request. I asked if it would be a hard pull, and she told me no, it would only be a hard pull if they had to go to stage 2 and actually pull a credit report, and she’d ask me before doing that. She put me on hold for a minute and came back with a $ 1k CLI, bringing me to $ 9k!
Now, I know, $ 1k isn’t much, but it’s enough headroom to give me some space for now. Actually, most of my spending is being siphoned off to my PenFed AmEx currently ($ 100 bonus on $ 1k spend), and I’ll probably be applying for another AmEx soon, meaning more spending away from the Discover. Basically all I’ll be using the Miles for in the near term is places that don’t accept AmEx.
Anyway, it was good to know I could get a soft-pull CLI from Discover.
