I have a medical debt that I was unaware of until it appeared as a collection on my CR. It was supposed to have been a workmans comp thing, and I currently have our HR dept. working on that now to see if it can be corrected.
In the meantime, however, there is this: I called Patient Account Services sometime before the 7th of this month intending to inform them that this was an HR mix up at work that was being worked on. They told me that they no longer had the debt and gave me two numbers. One was CMRE which I called. I gave them my SSN and they said they had no record of the debt. The other was the law office of Jack W. Brown, PL who I called today and requested a return call. Now, all that said, I checked on CK today and noticed that Patient Account Services updated the account on the 12th of this month……this was AFTER they told me that they no longer had the debt.
What action do I take from here? Isn’t reporting on a debt they no longer have illegal? Of course, it could be a simple clerical error, and I understand that.
I hope to get a call back from the law firm and HOPE they will play nice while this gets sorted at work and not throw this on my CR as a fresh collection….that would definitely sting.
