I have a Washington Mutual Visa card and they sent me a copy of my credit report for free. See if any of your credit cards offer a free copy of your credit report, they also already have your personal information so you will not have to give it out to an unknown party.

I do have a friend that used a free credit report website and everything was fine, she was not scammed or anything. Not sure which one it was though.

There is no such thing as a free credit score. Fees are required to obtain them that is why you were asked for a credit card number.
Some credit card companies will provide your score free (WAMU and Providian) if you have a charge account with them.
You may go to this site for a free copy of your credit report. It is the only one authorized by the FTC and NO CREDIT CARD numbers are required

I don’t think there is any company that will give you your credit score without first putting in your credit card information. The majority of them wants you join their credit monioring service. They will give you your report & score free for the first 30 days, if you cancel they shouldn’t charge you anything. There are some reputable companies out there.

You are entitled to free copies of your credit report from the three credit bureaus (AnnualCreditReport.com). Scores are propriety and you have to pay for them.

If you are just interested in getting your score, go to MyFICO.com. Get it directly from the source.
