I sent in my tax return in mid-early February with the 1st time Home Buyer tax credit, and I haven’t received my refund yet. I was wondering if anyone had any experience regarding how long it ought to take for the refund check to be returned to you (or if I’m just being paranoid!).

Give it another 4 weeks or so.

IF you provided all the required documentation supporting your purchase with your return, you can expect a delay of from three to four MONTHS from your filing date. Due to unexpectedly high levels of fraud and error, all of these requests are undergoing audit scrutiny. You may see your refund in June.

You can check the progress on the IRS website, https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp

If it doesn’t show up, it might be because they haven’t put it in their system yet, so don’t panic. Once they recieve it and it shows up, it takes them roughly another 2-3 weeks for you to get it.

I just got mine, and I filed at the end of January, so it takes them 6-8 weeks. I even called them, and if it doesn’t show up on the website, it just means it’s not in their system yet, and they can’t help you and want you to wait the full amount of 8 weeks before calling. Hope that helps. (I was impatient too 🙂
