I just talked to a customer service agent at MYFICO and he said that late payment stays on your credit score forever, and another free credit score says it only stay there for 7 years. Is it 7 years or forever?

1 Thought on how long does late payment stay on your credit report?

Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act (Federal law) derogatory accounts show for 7-years from the date of first delinquency. So the late payment will show in one way or another for 7-years and 180-days.

For the first 24-months people will be able to see when you were late after that it will simply show that you were not when.
