My husband and I are in the process of buying our first home. We currently have a close date 3 weeks from now, but that seems so long to wait and not know anything!!! We were pre-approved for the loan, have all of our paperwork in, appraisal, our mortgage guy said everything looks good, etc… my question:

How likely that after all of that, the underwriter would deny our purchase? Is the underwriter more of a formality or they sometimes actually deny potential homeowners from obtaining a home loan??? Thanks!

If you have a very knowledgeable and experienced loan officer then they know what the underwriter needs and can tell you if this will probably work or not. If your loan officer is new or not very knowledgeable then you will not know until you get the Official word.
