You can claim under the home insurance policy and you will need to contact your insurance carrier to see if they will cover your damage. Did you have a police report? It’s always helpful to file an police report! If you lost your insurance policy you might need to contact your agent or whoever you purchase the insurance from and they should always keep a record of your policy their can be located by your name or your house address! Hope this was helpful!

    Hi there.

You will only be able to claim on your home contents policy IF you have cover for accidental damage. If it had been damaged by fire, water etc or if it had been stolen these things are covered as standard. However, accidental damage is usually optional and you would have paid extra premium for it.

If you have lost the policy, hopefully you can remember where you bought it. If you give them a call and provide your name and address, they should be able to find your details and help you sort your claim out.

If you have cover for accidental damage for your contents then you can, however if you haven’t then I’m afraid you can’t.

It will depend on whether your insurance policy for contents included accidental damage cover.

I suggest you contact your insurance broker who will advise you further and confirm the cover. If you don’t have a broker (and this is one good reason why you should have one!) and don’t know the insurance company then if you are paying by direct debit your bank statement may give a hint.
