Your refund has been reduced by $ 5,288.89 to pay a past due obligation such as child support, another federal agency debt, or state income tax. The Financial Management Service, who issues IRS refunds, will send you a notice informing you of the offset they have made. The details of the debt are not provided to the IRS. Please do not call us to inquire about the details because we will not be able to answer your questions. Instead, direct any questions you have about the offset or debt to the agency identified on the notice. If you do not receive the notice within two weeks, please call the Financial Management Service at 1-800-304-3107.
Anyone ever get this? He is almost up to date on child support – at most a few hundred behind. And we got a refund from state of 184$ …. any ideas what kind of “agency” this could be? He has no debt that we could even imagine from a federal source.
