We put an offer in on a house for $ 223,000 for a house listed at $ 240,000. They came back with $ 237,000. We believe a fair price for this house is actually between $ 225,000-230,000. This is based on numerous houses we’ve looked at in this range as well as our realtors opinion. The house has been on the market for 7 months with only 1 price drop (from 244 to $ 240K). In our city this price range competes with new constuction (this house is 15 years old). From what our realtor told us there aren’t a lot of buyers in this price range. Any advice on how to counter offer/negotiate? We don’t want to lose the house but at the same time aren’t willing to overpay. Also I would like to think they wouldn’t want to lose their only offer because of $ 5,000 either. Help!
