I haven’t payed on the car (I owe $36,000)…just let it be for the past 3 years. It was recently sent to a collection agency. I’m hoping the SOL runs out here in California.

In the mean time, I was considering applying for a secured credit card through Bank of america to help boost my score. I have $2000 to put down towards it…is this a bad idea? Will it alert the car’s collection agency that I “have money” and make it hard for me in the future? I don’t want them to come after me.

My ultimate goal is to get a mortgage by the end of this year for $200k (FHA loan).
      My credit score is 632/580/586
