This question pertains to the current 2010 FIFA World Cup performances of United legends Wayne Rooney and, in particular, Cristiano Ronaldo. For the past 4 years, people have wrongly labeled (IMO) Man Utd as a one man team. This is due to the outstanding performances of, the then, CR7 and, most recently, Rooney. It has been said a lot in the media by so-called football experts and rival fans that these players have “carried the team.” I wish to refute this perception. Football (Soccer) is a team sport. This isn’t golf or tennis. Your own performances depend on the performances of your teammates. To say that one man can “carry” a team of eleven men is absurd and disrespectful to the other members of the team. Also, I do not deny that high industry and effort from one player can influence and encourage the rest of the team to perform better. But I feel that people don’t really understand the game when they say such things. People should realize that these players owe their success to the system and tactics used by SAF. In terms of CR9, Sir Alex surrounded him with great players that would supply him the ball and in that way exploiting his great goal-scoring ability. Also consider the fact that Cristiano is not big on defending so to say that he carried our team is not only narrow-minded but also disrespectful and condescending to the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Fletcher, Evra, Rio, Vidic, Nani, etc. Sir Alex put Rooney in this role after Ronaldo was sold and its also the reason why the 09/10 season became Rooney’s highest scoring. Before that, everybody was saying how Wayne Rooney wasn’t a prolific striker but have since changed their tune. Now, look at both’s poor 2010 WC performances (CR is currently still in so he can improve). It’s because the tactics and squads aren’t suited to their needs like they are at United and people like to give them too much credit without realizing this. One of the reasons why Lionel Messi is so great is that, even though he is an outstanding player, he knows that he wouldn’t be the world’s best player without the support from players like Xavi and Iniesta. Rooney also acknowledges the support however CR9 does not. He is arrogant (and might I say effeminate lol) and self-centered and he let all the media attention go to his head. I honestly believe that he thinks Man U’s success of past 4 years was all because of him. Just search his quotes of when he left to Madrid. Well, until he starts respecting his teammates (Gonzalo Higuain in particular) he will never score 42 goals in another season and, more importantly, he will never achieve his dying wish of being better than Lionel Messi. What do you guys think?

7 Thoughts on Do you agree with me that people (the haters) like to discredit Man Utd and Sir Alex Ferguson?

I didnt read that much of it, I dont care enouggh about manu to do so, but I can honestly say (with half the country backing me up) that rooney played dreadfully in the world cup 2010, and he let down the whole country. there wasnt even much point in him being on the team tbh. manu is an awful team, and either they are complete wusses, or they just like to roll around on the floor a lot.

    leeds utd ftw

A small percentage? Man U are one of the most hated teams in England, behind Leeds and just ahead of Chelsea and Man City

Manchester United are used to being hated by a very small section of the football world.
When you are at the top, there will always be those who want to pull you down…just because they aren’t up there. Jealousy is a terrible thing.
Next season is a new season and we will see a more-determined Man Utd go out on the paddock to win another premiership….again !!
Others try to emulate the greatest football club in the world, but they all come a poor second.
    Glory, glory Man United !!!

Efil, dream on!!! (Chelsea > Utd) That day will come when I die!!!!

LOL.. I think EXACTLY the same thing about Ronaldo.. I will not expand my opinions on him as it may hurt some people, but I couldn’t agree any less with whatever u said.. Ronaldo was around greater players who helped him to become what he is today.. And he effin thinks that he did it all alone!! What loads of bollocks!!!

Anyways, I have always snubbed people who said that Utd is a one man team.. We won our third last game against Spurs 3-1 without Rooney.. People can presume what they want about our team, it’s upto them.. I am clear in my views about my team.. Our legends have been created becoz of the wonderful team spirit that we have.. The way we work together (something lacking in the Engalnd NT)..

I agree that Rooney is still NOT hogging all the lime light.. Scholes and Giggs will always be players for me in Utd.. They’ll shine out..

Utd is a great TEAM.. We fans know that and that is enough for me.. I rest my case…

    Edit: Spike, please CHILL!!!!!! GOSH!!!

Why should he NEED “discrediting”, by OTHERS? Over the YEARS, he’s done a DAMNED GOOD JOB, of THAT himself, – PARTICULARLY in the last YEAR or so!

Case in POINT? He has had the BARE-FACED AUDACITY, to accuse his nearest NEIGHBOURS, (the ONLY true “MANCHESTER” Club), – of “USING THEIR WEALTH, TO BUY A TOP-FOUR SPOT”!

    Tell me, the TRUTH!!!

When HE took the reins, at the helm of the “FAUX MANCUNIANS”, – HE was given VAST sums, to spend!

So, WHO “BOUGHT” the TITLE, first?

I think…you need to learn to use paragraphs.

I always find it funny.Liverpool fans call United a one-man team when they are largely dependent on Gerrard.Arsenal are largely dependent on Fabregas.Man City are largely dependent on Tevez.Real Madrid are largely dependent, sorry, fully dependent on Ronaldo. The only fans with a right to taunt United about their over-reliance on one player are probably Chelsea and Barca fans (although I would like to see how Barca cope without Messi).

On the Ronaldo thing,he will never be as good as Messi (this coming from a United fan).Messi can turn the game around by himself (just look at his performances at the World Cup compared to Ronaldo). However,Messi would not be able to score goals without playmakers like Xavi, which is what Ronaldo can do,score solo goals.

Do you agree with me that people like to discredit Arsenal F.C. and Arsene Wenger?

Oh, to the guy above me, Arsenal do not depend on Fabregas alone. Get your facts right, we have many other quality players like Arshavin, van Persie, Nasri, Song, Vermaelen, etc.
