Sorry in advance if this sounds confusing, it’s difficult to explain.

I am a college student living away from home, and I bought something online recently. I didn’t realize that the store I bought the thing from had a policy where first time customers had to have the first item they bought from the store shipped to the billing address for verification purposes. Well, my billing address is my parents house. So I was thinking that maybe once the package arrives, my parents could ship it to me at school. If they were to do this 1) would they have to take the item out of the packaging it came in, or is there anyway they could just pay for the postage and have it sent in the same packaging it was sent in? 2) If they were to do this, would the post office people have to know what is inside? Would they have to inspect it? More or less, I would greatly prefer if neither my parents nor the people at the post office would have to see what’s inside the box… just because. Thanks in advance!

if they didn’t open it if they did and the address is there well htey can try. it would be scratch the address out and change it but not sure it will work. why can’t you go and get it when a few weeks are up.

I’ve shipped unopened packages many times. Usually I ship DHL or Fed Ex but I’m sure the post office would ship that way too. I usually put a new address label over the old one and away we go.

All they have to do is buy more postage put it over the other postage and send it. No they don’t need to know the contents as long as it isn’t going out of the country. They don’t even need to open it.

They can send it in the same package as long as they cover up or remove any addresses or stamps which were on it when it was sent to them.

If the item is shipped via the US Postal Service, all they have to do is cross out your home address and add you current address then take it back to the Post Office to have it forward to you.

They won’t even have to add postage, repackage… or the post office inspect it.

Unless you have filed a fowarding order with the USPS you, or your parents will have to pay postage to send it to you. The USPS has given the sender the service they paid for, so to send it on will require additional postage.

They do not need to know what is inside the package nor will they open it. The post office will ask the person mailing it (your mom or dad) “Is there anything liquid, fragile or perishable?” as long as the answer is no and there is not anything dangerous or illegal (like gases, weapons, etc), then nobody needs to know what is in there. And, I am assuming since it is something that you ordered from a company & they mailed it already that none of the above apply. If there is anything fragile-they will just mark it as fragile-if its perishable-they will tell you to send it express/overnight mail I think and if its liquid, well then I’m not sure.
Yes, they can use the same package to send it to you. They can just tape a white piece of paper over the original addresses and mark the new ones, or use a mailing label, whatever is convenient. Or, they can re-wrap the entire sealed package in brown mailing paper & write the new address there. They will just have to pay for new postage.
They will offer 2 standard mailing options-to send it priority mail or parcel post. Parcel post is the cheaper standard option and the cost depends on weight and it can take up to a week or so to arrive. If it is a large heavy package, then parcel post is probably the best choice. Otherwise, if it doesn’t weigh that much or isn’t that large, I would use priority mail since it only takes 2-3 days to arrive (usually 2 days) and they have “flat rate boxes” where anything you can fit in that box is a “set price” so if your package fits in one of the boxes-it would be that specific “set price” regardless of the weight I think (it usually starts at about $ 4-$ 5 for a box that is like a small shoe box and goes up a few dollars for different sizes). They can put your box right in a priority mail box (available for free at the post office) and mail it that way OR they can still send it priority mail in the original box should they choose so. I have found it to be worth it if the package is not very large or heavy, I would rather pay $ 1-$ 3 extra and get it 2 days then wait a week or longer. Also, priority mail is usually delivered seperately from regular mail and sometimes they will knock on your door instead of just leaving it outside.
Also, depending on the value of the contents you might want to add insurance which is about $ 1.50 I think for $ 50 insurance & then its like another $ 1 for each additional $ 50 or so of insurance. Hope this all helps. I “wonder” what you have in that box…..LOL..I’m thinking Fredericks of Hollywood or Victoria’s Secret type stuff….GOOD LUCK
