I’m on the BUNAC programme from England and I’m looking for a full time job. I will be staying in Toronto for 12 months. I have a degree in International Business and German and would ideally like to get a job in sales, marketing, finance or insurance where possible. However, I am open to any opportunity that will come my way.

Just to outline the situation, I’m currently a home insurance salesman for the second largest insurance group in the United Kingdom. I’m 26 years old and have nearly 10 years work experience in the fields of retail (clothing stores), office administration, sales and insurance retention.

What is the current situation regarding jobseekers from England and how would it be best to make myself stand out in the job market? I was thinking of contacting firms directly by phone to emphasise my interest in the respective jobs.

Please advise me where possible.

Thank you.

Start going contract there and it might land you a long term job. Very, very, very few employers are going to offer you a job without interviewing you in person and without the famous or infamous ” Canadian experience”. You will have to prove yourself. You will have lots of competition.
And do not expect stuff to work the same as in England.

Post your résumé on LinkedIn too..It might help. ( It is not called CV here). Some job hunters actually really look at this site. You can also link with other users who could help you.

There are lots of agencies for work
    Good luck !
