i have always wanted to have my own personal race circuit. so i was wondering if you saved enough money a bought a huge stip of land. and pave the whole thing. kinda like a really big parking lot. can you practice car control, racing, burnouts, ext. and it still be legal so that if a cop sees you you wont get a ticket or get sent to jail.

6 Thoughts on can you buy a big piece of property and practice racing your car on it and still be legal and not get a ticket?

Yes, private property is not under the jurisdiction of the police in any way as far as traffic violations go.

In response to the answer below, there is no law being broken; your dad, like most cops, doesn’t give a damn about the law and think they can make up their own.

Yes, the motor vehicle laws do not extend to private property. This is why you can set and enforce speed limits on your own property.
The only thing that you have to remember is that you have to not let it extend past the property line, and this includes noise and vapors.

For the most part the answer is yes.

There are other considerations of course, that being the location and whether or not there are ordinances that prohibit such activity. Prior to purchasing the property just make sure that there are no ordinances that would prevent you from using the land as you wish.
