Most credit repair companies are scams. There is not magic letter of special form to remove legit derogatory items from your credit report. Read what the FTC has to say about credit repair: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre13.shtm

Best way to get that Verizon debt removed is to negotiate a delete for pay — you pay $ x and they remove the item from your credit file. Depending on how old that debt is, you may be able to settle for half.

Send a letter to the collection agency. Specifically say that you are not acknowledging the debt but making an offer to expedite removal of the item from your credit. Ask that an authorized agent of the collection agency sign and return a copy of your lettter indicating acceptance of your offer. When you get the signed copy, send them a money order.

If they don’t accept your first offer, wait 3 or 4 months and make another offer for less.

The various ‘credit repair’ firms out there cannot force any credit bureau to remove something which is a valid entry. You can do the same thing they do, for NO charge. If you think the entry from Verizon is not valid, ask for verification that the item is valid. The credit bureaus have about a month to show validity of a challenged entry.
