Apart from the interest payment deductions. Are there any other tax breaks for buying a home ? I bought a brand new home in 2007 and it has all the energy efficient appliances, can I claim deductions for that ? The builder put them in and was included in the price of the home, so can I claim that ?

    No deductions for the appliances.

Interest, property taxes and points paid at closing. That is pretty much it.

No, they came with the house. The appliances have to be replacements. You can deduct your mortgage insurance premium & any points you paid in the loan however. You can also deduct your property taxes paid in 2007. (All of this assuming that your total deductions make it worth filing 1040 & itemizing.)
