Windows

I have an Omnia II and like it very much my main question is how do I make sure that I’ve got the latest software installed?  I know on Windows Mobile 6.1 there was a thing where you could have it check for updates.  Also I’ve read on these forums that some of the Win mo 6.5 devices have firmware updates for them already.  How do I know when one becomes available?  I am in college most of the year so I don’t always have time to keep logging on to the VZW website.  Any help would be appreciated.

I just had to format my Omnia SCH-I910 and am trying to re-install the firmware update from last summer and ofcourse the only compatible OS links are for Vista and XP. I tried using the Vista option since it requires Windows mobile and it keeps prompting me to install Active sync 4.5  as if I have WXP. Any ideas?

I’m enjoying my new Samsung Omnia II, but as usual, I’ve run into a couple (so far) of quirks. As with any new toy/phone….   First, I’ve found the Gmail app for Windows Mobile, but when I download the Gmail install file, I can’t see that it has installed. I can find the “Mail.jar” file, but when I click it, I get a message that amounts to telling me to open the file with an application. Anyone have an ideas?   Also, the ringtones begin with an ascending-style tone, even though it’s set to “Vibrate & Ring”. Actually, I don’t know if that’s a bad thing, it’s certainly not a jolt when the phone rings. But I wonder if this can be remedied.   Thanx, Geri O

I know some folks seem to have had success installing HTCAPI.dll and HTCSensorSDK.dll. I’ve tried two different sources for these files, I’ve stored them in the Windows folder but they don’t work. I’m basing this on the fact that Seismo and BubbleLevel don’t work. Also, I think others have been able to get the SPB MobileShell Carousel to tilt – I get nothing. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I’m looking into getting a Mac for my next computer as I have had so many problems with Windows machines. I still need to have Windows to run a proprietary biz ap which syncs with my windows mobile phone (which I also need for business).  I was shown that the mac can use Parallel software and run both Mac and Windows OS at the same time.   So any one know how that would affect syncing the TP2?  Would it be able to find the OS that it needs to sync to ok?   I’m currently using XP but will get Windows 7 I think for the Windows side so that I don’t have to upgrade in a few years. It syncs but so far my email doesn’t since I’m still using Eudora rather than Outlook for email.  I’ll probably change from that but don’t really like Outlook.  Our business application syncs at the same time that the other things sync but it has its own sync window.

I’m trying to watch videos that are on a mirco sd card that were taken with my digital camera.   There are 2 media players on the Omnia 2.    When try to view the videos using the (Samsung (?) ) media player, a notification states, “The player does not support video format.”    When I play the videos using  Windows Media Player, I can hear the audio but  I am not able to see the video. On my home computer, I can view the videos using Windows Media Player without any problems.   Do I need to download additional software to convert the files?   Thanks!

Hi Everyone,   I use the old XV6800 windows mobile phone alot for work, and have never needed the data plan. Now it is starting to go belly up and I have to replace it. However, I can’t afford this mandatory data plan Verizon has with any smart phones. I was thinking about getting a simple phone for phone calls and then getting either the new Droid phones or one of the windows mobile phones like the Omnia II and using it as a PDA. So, I was wondering if you could use the new smart phones as just a plain PDA (without either the phone or mandatory data plan). Would all the normal aspects of a smartphone work without having a phone/data plan (things like WiFi, Word, Outlook and Windows Mobile programs)? What doesn’t work (besides making phone calls and using the 3G network)? Would only Windows Mobile work that way or can the android phones also work?   If it makes a difference, I always have access to WiFi (except when driving and people seem to frown on us using our phones when we are doing that :smileyhappy: )   Finally, I know many people on the forum don’t feel that people should use a smart phone unless they have a data plan, but that isn’t an option for me. I would really appreciate just getting help on answering whether smartphones would work without a phone/data plan and advice on which one to choose.   Thanks!

Just installed the Windows 6.5 upgrade on my Touch Pro2 and found that the only input methods now are virtual keyboard or slide-out keyboard.  Block recognizer (graffiti) has apparently been removed. Does anyone know if the alternate data entry modes can be activated in 6.5?  If not, is it possible to backgrade to 6.1? Thanks.
