Got Letter! They are closing my CITI card after 12 years!
Hello Board. i was hoping someone could shed some light on this situation for me. I received a letter from CITI this week stating that upon further review of my account, they are closing it. I am annoyed because I was going to be buying a car in fall and the card had a hefty limit on it. It has 7700 limit which I had been paying down and had gotten it to around 6000. I have never been late on the card and I always pay well more than the limit. The thing is, they are closing the card May13. Should I beat them to it and close the account so it will say closed by consumer whether than the other way around? Does that matter anymore? My scores are hovering around 680 for transunion and 675 for equfax. How much will my points dip with a closed account with a balance. My util is around 69% yes I know way too high but I am working on bring it down. I know my util will go up but hopefully not crazy. Anything I can do to soften the blow and still be able to get a car in fall with favorable interest rates? I cant just pay off the 5500 all at once. So overly annoyed with them and I have been a great customer for years.
