I know some folks seem to have had success installing HTCAPI.dll and HTCSensorSDK.dll. I’ve tried two different sources for these files, I’ve stored them in the Windows folder but they don’t work. I’m basing this on the fact that Seismo and BubbleLevel don’t work. Also, I think others have been able to get the SPB MobileShell Carousel to tilt – I get nothing. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have been wanting a new smartphone for a while and finally decided on the Omnia 2 earlier this week. I was very hesitant due to the mixed reviews. But, as a long time user of Pocket PC and Windows Mobile, I decided to give it a shot, especially with the new price reduction. I have looked at the Droid and honestly am not a fan of the industrial look or Android. I am not the type to need a bunch of apps. I want the phone to have lots of multimedia capabilities. Having said all that, I do not understand all the reviews that says this phone is hard to use. Yes, the default interface is not the best but it is easily tweakable by turning off TouchWiz or adding Mobile Shell. I am using the standard Windows 6.5 interface now and have no problems at all. I am waiting to see how Mobile Shell 5.0 turns out. In a nutshell, the interface is not the best by default but is very tweakable. The second thing that reviewers talk about is the performance and sluggishness. Maybe it’s just me but I always use task switcher to kill apps as soon as I am done with them. With this phone, this is a must and is no big deal to me. The performance has been a suprise honestly. I expected the thing to crawl and it does not. Has not come close to freezing either… The features are awesome. Voice recognition works great. Swype is easy to learn. The camera has more features than any camera that Verizon has that I can tell. The smart reader technology works too. I am not big on surfing the web on a phone but it is faster than I thought it would be once again. I did download Skyfire but honestly like the Opera browser better. Windows Mobile may not be cutting edge but this phone has a great refined look to it and honestly has more features than I will probably ever need.
The gps weather updating for “My Location” quit working. Right after installing to Mobile 6.5 it worked. GPS location for Co-Pilot and Google maps both work very well. While trying to update the GPS icon is rotating but after a few minutes it will stop but the weather is not updated. Can someone help me to get this to work again and if not how can I remove it? Thanks, Billy

OK. I’ve had my Omnia 2 since the day it was released and really do like it. I have purchased and installed a lot of aftermarket Spb Software, including Mobile Shell, Weather, Back Up, Imageer, Time, and several others. I also have the various Verizon software running such as Navigator, Song ID, etc… as well as FireFly, Google Maps, You Tube, and many more. I have all of the above software CAB files stored on my “Micro SD storage card”. When I install these CAB files, if given the choice, I always install them on the phones “My Storage”. There’s only a couple that do not ask and automatically install the software directly in the phones “Main storage” location, Mobil Shell being one of them. Here’s my problem: if I do a complete HARD RESET and start from scratch, installing all of my aftermarket software applications as noted above, I end up only using about 30 MB of the phones “Main Memory” (shows 101 MB after Hard Reset and than around 70-73 MB after all the software installed above). Everythings good. Software’s installed, runs great, still have plenty of memory, and the phone shows no “slow down” in speed or performance. However, after several hours and days, if I go back into the phones Main Memory, the memory has dropped to only around 15 MB available. And after another few days, the phone starts getting slow, locking up, crashing, etc… and when I check the main memory again it’s basically all used up (shows 1 MB available). I’ve gone into the File Explorer and search “On device” memory for folders and files that must have started growing and I try and delete them. But my question is: “HOW AND WHERE DO YOU LOCATE THESE TEMPORARY OR GROWING FILES” ??? This is driving me absolutely crazy. It appears there is no single location or file to look in and be able to quickly erase all these cache, temp, log files, etc.. I swear it’s like they are hidden somewhere and instead of being something recognizable, such as “Temporary Internet Files”, they’re called “Hidden Store” or something. Because of this difficulty, I’ve accidentally erased files which than render the phone to all sorts of problems. So far I must have done at least 25 HARD RESETS and it takes hours for me to set the phone back up and install the aftermarket software, email accounts, etc… SO, CAN ANYONE OFFER ME SOME ADVICE OR TELL ME WHERE OR WHICH FILES I SHOULD BE LOOKING INTO IN ORDER TO ERASE THESE FILES EVERY FEW DAYS ? Is there any real good software that will do this for me automatically? Why doesn’t either Windows, Samsung, or the software manufacturer’s make this a simple easy painless task? Why can’t they simply have all these temp, cache, log files, etc.. stored in one local file? PLEASE anyone help me. I’m at my wits end with having to do this. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes their time to respond !!!!

I figured there seems to be enough people discussing this particular topic, SlingBox, that perhaps it might best serve everyone to have its own post as opposed to asking and discussing this topic in the “general Omnia 2″ post. This “general Omnia 2″ post gets so many different questions being asked under this one post that I find it maddening to try and follow a specific topic or question. Hope this might help those who have any questions regarding using SlingBox on their Omnia 2. Here goes: I read on the SlingBox website the following: “Windows mobile-based touch screen phones NOT supported by this latest version of SlingBox Mobile: Verizon Samsung Omnia 2 Sprint HTC Touch Diamond Verizon HTC Touch Diamond Sony Ericsson X1 If you have one of these phones, please continue to use the previous version of SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Phones (version 1.6). I wanted to know from current SlingBox users: 1) What exactly does the above mean and are there any drawbacks to having to use this older player vs the latest player? It shows the original Verizon Omnia is supported in the latest SlingPlayer Mobile, but NOT the newer Omnia 2. 2) How easy or difficult was it to get the SlingBox initially set up and running on your Omnia 2? 3) How is the picture quality content: acceptable, above or below what you expected? 4) How is the speed for getting connected, changing channels, or basically just the operation between the Omnia 2 and the SlingBox player? 5) Are there any “buffer” delays, interuptions, or similar issues while watching TV on your Omnia 2? 6) Overall would you recommend SlingBox for use on the Omnia 2 and has it met, disappointed or exceeded your expectations? Thanks in advance to all who take their time to offer any guidance, opinions, or suggestions on this topic.
