We paid insurance on the property when it was empty in the name of the person who was suppose to be living there. This may sound silly but we were trying to protect the property in the event of a casualty. We had to take out a policy in there name because they would not insure us because we did not live there.

I just lot a big collection of toy cars and other valuables in a fire. I estimate the losses at $ 10,000-15,000. I did not have insurance to cover it. Can I write off the losses? If so, what kind of documentation do I need? Do I need a professional Appraisal? Pictures of everything that [...]

I’m looking at buying a co-op apartment in Manhattan but am concerned that I’ll lose my entire investment if the building is destroyed in a terror attack (i.e., that I’ll have to pay the entire amount of the mortgage even if the building is destroyed). Does the standard insurance policy that co-op buildings have cover [...]

The complex I live in requires that each tenant have renters insurance because the management suffered losses from damages as a result of the tenants’ negligence. I want to have the freedom to choose the company that I buy it from — but they want to increase my rent in order to cover for the [...]

If a household does not have home insurance would it not be better to file for losses at the time I file for income tax? I might add that I have an old mobile home that isn’t worth what I paid in PREMIUM payment every year. thank in advance

I have one Home owners insurance policy. It just barely covers the cost of rebuilding which is close to the mortgage amount, in case of fire etc. Can I get a 2nd Home owners insurance policy to compensate me for my losses outside of the actual building of the house it self?

Is there a insurance policy that rental property owners can purchase to cover losses that homeowners policy does not cover?

With 1 in 8 homes going into foreclosure, and mortgage lenders unable to keep up with tons of applications for help, is there really an answer to this problem? Jobs are being lost at alarming rates. Should lenders simply write these loans off as losses and call it?

Isn’t this the same way we funded the Iraq war?? (didn’t include it in the budget and borrowed, and borrowed, and borrowed……….probably started printing at some point) Didn’t Obama/Democrats criticize Republicans for doing this?? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100224/ap_on_bi_ge/us_geithner_house_8;_ylt=AgPcPYc8GoUiKr5DtfjvEDzw.6F4;_ylu=X3oDMTE2bzA5djE5BHBvcwMyBHNlYwN5bi1yLWItbGVmdARzbGsDZXYtZ2VpdGhuZXI6 WASHINGTON – The Obama administration will wait until 2011 to propose an overhaul of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie [...]
