Fasting

The Health and Fitness message board is unavailable for some reason, so I'm going to ask here:   Has anyone on here fasted before? What kind of fast? What positive and/or negative experiences have you had with it?   I'm usually really healthy, but have recently had bouts of illnesses that keeps recurring. Maybe I need to get rid of something inside and fasting seems like a reasonable solution. I've read about it online, but am wondering if anyone at the Coffee Shop has any experiences to share. I don't want to lose weight, just feel a lot better.

An Access Idea

As I was in the ER at a local hospital last Sunday and the computer systems in the ER were down, I started thinking about my medical records.   The health care system that I am a part of usually has computers that can access my medical history at any location in the system.  However, not this Sunday.  Just to give some perspective, I loathe going to any doctor.  I absolutely hate having to give the same information over and over.  I have even been known to tell the person "Why don't you just read the chart and history!"  I am also a 20+ year professional in the IT industry and I know that the hardware and software exists to make this a reality.  What doesn't exist is the will on the part of the health care industry or the government to make this happen.   My thought is this:  I want my medical records/history to be put into a format that can be loaded onto a flash drive that I can then carry with me at all times.  I want to be able to update it with my own thoughts (for example supplements I take) and illnesses that I don't go to the doctor for, and I want to be able to have it updated every time I go to a doctor.  The flash drive should be small enough that I can carry it on my key chain without a lot of bulk added.   I don't want my medical records to exist on some national network!!!  Companies and the government have repeatedly shown they are not great at safeguarding personal info as there have been many many leaks.  My health is my responsibility and my medical history is mine!  It does not belong to some insurance or health care network.  I want to be responsible for safeguarding it myself.   Anybody with me?

Insurance rate hike

I have just been notified that my health insurance rate is going to increase by 8.26 - 28.63% depending on what program I'm under.  The average is estimated to be 17.3%.  since I pay 100% of my insurance, it's going to be a little tighter around here.  I figured it out and I'll be out-of-pocket for my wife and I around $900.00 a month.  Plus, my co-pays will increase too. This means it will be about 20% of my income per month. And I don't even get sick.  (cross my fingers) So much for a good day:smileysad: Message Edited by Ol_fart on 04-30-2010 10:41 AM

Need Some Advice

Hello everyone   I need some advice from people who are not so close to the situation....   In February I came to help my stepfather who own their own business in Philadelphia while I was laid off. I have been here three months and I am just totally miserable. I am almost 34 years old married 11 1/2 years with 3 kids ages 10, 9 and 4 and my family can see how unhappy I am, not just my wife and kids but almost everyone. I stay because of my mother and now I have the opportunity for a full time job and it starts on May 17th and I feel like I am caught between a rock and and a hard place.   My stepfather has a nasty temper and the way he treats my mom is unbelievable and this dates back almost 30 years. He was abusive to me and my autistic sister and when my mom would step in she would get a back hand.   I know for some the answer is just leave and dont look back. But I know this would completely come between me and my mom. So thats where the problem comes in!?! I always put my relationship with my mom first but I know I need to put my health and well being first. My wife totally supports the decision for me to take  this other job but I dont know how to go about all of this without ruining the relationship with me and my mother and my kids and their grandmother.   Thanks in advance Message Edited by roxnj on 04-29-2010 12:16 PM

HHS warns of double-digit spike in health premiums
WASHINGTON (AP) — Eye-popping health insurance premium increases of up to 39 percent are not an exception but a worrisome sign of the times, the Obama administration said in a report Thursday. Now, the Health and …
