I had mentioned in a thread before that I had received a letter from Bank Of America about how they were re-introducing their "BANKAMERICARD" (which it was called before it was Visa). They stated that since I have had the Credit card since 1974, they considered me a "legacy customer" and would like to convert my current card to the "BANKAMERICARD REWARDS VISA". They also said they wished to double my current Credit limit. This was back in August when they wrote me and I informed them that if they wished to do it when I was due to get a new card it would be fine. FAST FORWARD TO NOW: OK, so, my B of A card expires the end of this month and I have just received my "replacement card". Yes, It is now called "BANKAMERICARD CASH REWARDS VISA" Signature card. They did also double my credit limit. Its a nice looking card but nothing special. I just found it kind of ironic that after all these years, I am back to having a "BANKAMERICARD". When I got the card originally, it was my first bank Card and had a HUGE $300 Limit. (well, huge for 1974). Guess if we live long enough, things go full circle in life. Message Edited by DickC on 03-11-2010 08:08 PM

I have had a smartphone for almost a year now. It's a Samsung SCH-i760 and it was contracted before 11/1/08 so was not subject to a data plan, rather pay per kb of use. For most of this time, I have been able to use the My Verizon ESN changer to activate my older Motorola flip phone whenever I needed something small to carry when out on the bicycle. My Krzr K1m fits right into a pocket of my under saddle bag. Then when I'm off the bicycle I would activate the Samsung smartphone and have that for use at the office or just for everyday use. Well...about a month ago VZW changed the online ESN changer (they called it an "enhancement") and even though I could use it to reactivate the Moto Krzr, going back to the Samsung smartphone could no longer be accomplished online as they removed the pay per Kb selection. I expressed my displeasure, and VZW apologized and said they would still do the change free for me if I called in, but taking away the functionality of the online ESN changer is huge for me as I was switching phones whenever I went to excercise. Now, based on all the commentary I read here about retroactive mandatory dataplans, I wonder if their offer to make these activations for me when I call will even be rescinded. Frankly what I think VZW and users who support the need for dataplans are missing is that some smartphones, those with included WiFi, just don't need the dataplans. These phones work fine as wireless telephones for most of their use and when WiFi is available, serve as internet devices.

So the Citicard I've had since 2003 just had its apr magically increased to the max. This isn't a case of missed payments or default account, but I vaguley recall receiving a later in the mail saying my APR would increase in Jan this year, but it didn't. However, I logged in to check my new statement at a balance of zero and sure enough my APR is at the max. I'm consider a balance transfer to an existing account of mind that has better rates and a decent limit, but this will the first time I've done one of these and I want to make sure I understand what it means and how it affects my credit. 1. When I transfer my balance of X dollars to another account, do I owe Citi that amount back? Say my balance is $500 and I transfer it to another account. Do I have to pay Citi $500 since I transfereed the balance? I'm probably interprating this as a cash advance. 2. Does my Citi account close when I transfer balance? I sure hope not because its my oldest account. 3. How does this effect my score in terms of the balance on the Citi Card and the other card I might transfer balance to? Will my credit report read a $500 balance on my Citi since I transferred the balance? Keep in mind my Citi account has $0 balance. The other card will have an increased credit limit I assume, but since my total credit limit didn't increase my score shouldn't go up or down. Thanks in advance.
