I recently applied for a phone via the CarPhone Warehouse, and whilst being accepted by all other networks was declined by Orange (who had the cheapest contract). Unsuprisingly nobody could tell me exactly why this was, other than a “credit issue”.

I have signed up with Experian (who do oranges credit checks) and am apparently in the “Super Prime” range, so don’t know what more I can do? Can anyone shed any light on this? In particular?

* Is there a minimum score orange needs as standard (on Experians 1-1000 scale)?
* Is it possible that the sneaky Car Phone warehouse decided to say this happened to try and get me to pay more a month for my contract?
* If I apply again do I risk hurting my credit rating with multiple searches against it?

Many thanks!

yes you WILL damage your credit more if you keep applying because they will continue to run your credit report and your score will keep falling

since you were declined they are REQUIRED to send you notice in the mail; the credit bureau that is listed on that paper can then send you a free copy of your credit report but you have to request it within 60 days of being declined

since you are getting declined you may want to look at getting one of those prepaid phones until your credit gets better

i know the rates are higher but that’s the price you have to pay when you have poor credit

If you have a good credit rating you can appeal against the decision, just show them your credit rating that you got from experian. It will damage your credit rating if you keep applying but if you apply a couple of times i can’t see it doing loads of damage.
