If by “credit rating” you mean your credit score, you can’t get it for free. You can, however get a free credit report from http://www.annualcreditreport.com and there is NO fees or gimicks.

To improve your score, I would recommend you visit http://www.myfico.com This is the company that developed the FICO scoring system that the agencies use. They have lots of information about how it’s put together, and what you can do to improve it. Don’t expect any instant solution. Many times it can take several months to boost your credit score up.

Most of those websites charge you for your “free” credit repost. the best way is to apply for a retail credit card. You dont have to get approved or if you do, just cut it up when it comes, but each time you apply they are required to send you a letter asking if you want a copy of your credit repost , say yes, and you will get it. I reccomend doing this on a regular basis as credit reporting agencies are notorious for having incorrect information or errors which can affect everything from your chances of getting a loan, to your car insurance rates. Good luck.
