I move into my new place at the end of the month
im 20 years old and this is my first home, its a unit not a house
What are some money saving tips?
How much does food cost a week to buy to live off,
i live at home at the moment so i dont have to worry about food/bills.

I have a full time job clearing 600 a week after tax so i know i will be struggling for a bit until i get used to it.

Advice/Tips please:)

  1. im 28 and i found the best way to save money is to use the envelope system with cash only. just label a bunch of different envelopes for ur utilities, rent, entertainment and any other expenses u have. do not use credit cards. leave them at home along with ur debit card and only use ur checkbook to pay bills. this is the best way to go. if u run out of cash from something like the entertainment envelope then dont go out again until the next paycheck. i learned this the hard way but now im getting ready to buy my BMW. i did it so u can too. good luck.

  2. First thing, set your thermostat at one temperature and leave it there. Your heat bill is the biggest thing to worry about.

Second, how much food costs depends totally on what you eat. Good call.

Make your own lunch and bring it with you. Get some Tupperware or Rubbermaid containers, because they will be cheaper in the long run than baggies.

Find a grocery store with a bulk section. Buy everything you can there, like cereal and pasta. Anything you buy in a box costs more.

You can get day-old bread from a local bakery. There are also grocery discount stores like Grocery Outlet where you can buy frozen and packaged food at about 50% off – but bulk is still cheaper.

You can live on about $ 30 a week if you are really careful and you do all your own cooking. If you go out all the time, you can spend four times that. If you don’t already know how to cook, go to the library and get a cookbook there.

  3. be debt free and have a big emergency savings… $ 5000 at least… is the best thing to do before buying a home
