Maintenance had to come into my apartment for another tenants work order. My diamond ring was sitting on my dresser in my bedroom and I noticed its missing. The apartment complex manager was notified and did confirm that maintenance had come into my apartment. What should I do?

    You can’t prove it, unfortunately. If you have renter’s insurance, file a claim. If not, you’re probably out of luck.

    Report it to the police immediately – and let them handle it –

    BUT, a diamond ring just left on the dresser – casually – ? ?

    You call the police and your insurance company.

    File a police report.
    File with your insurance company.
    Put it in writing to management, dates, time, etc.

    Were you given notice that maintenance was to enter your apartment? Was it an emergency? If NOT, then management company may have some liability.

    you cant really do anything, you can’t prove who took it, or even that it was actually taken by any human. look under the dresser first, though.

    I must warn you about making accusations you cant prove – you can be sued for slander or defamation.

    Unfortunately, you would have to be able to prove this claim. It is your word against theirs.
